Objective:

Purpose:

To set up a simple circuit for a buzzer.

Materials:

buzzer (3,6, or 12)
wires
pushbutton switch
ā€˜Dā€™ cell battery
Alligator clips

Procedure:

1. Connect one end of the battery to the one end of the switch using the wires provided.
2. Connect the other end of the switch to any end of the buzzer.
3. Complete the circuit by connecting the other end of the battery to the buzzer.
4. The buzzer should sound when the switch is on.

Why?: When the circuit is closed, the switch controls the amount of current that flows into the buzzer. When the switch is on, this allows current to flow through the switch to the buzzer (the circuit is closed), hence the buzzer sounds. But when the switch is off, this prevents current flow throughout the circuit (the circuit is open), and the buzzer does not sound.
